Jan Kegg began playing piano at age 8, studying both classical and jazz. She also played guitar, violin, and mandolin, and taught piano for over 15 years at Catalano Conservatory of Music and from her home. After the passing of her husband, Steve Keys, in 2008, she returned to full-time work and stepped away from teaching. In 2009, she joined the Chapel Hill UCC Church Praise Team as a volunteer keyboardist and became its leader in 2014. Jan served as Music Minister from 2017 until the church’s closing in 2025.

Jan was married to Steve for 31 years and together they had two daughters, Jennifer and Jaclyn, and two grandchildren, Chase and Taylor Leonard. In 2019, she married Robert Kegg, a Vietnam War veteran and retired professional firefighter, becoming stepmother to his sons, Matthew and Andrew.
